The holiday season is all about being festive. There is no reason your garage door can't be included in the fun. When decorating your garage door for the holidays, you want to keep the protection of your door in mind. Even a small decoration can quickly become a costly repair or a safety hazard if you fail to do so. Fortunately, there are a number of creative ways to decorate your garage door without worrying about causing damage. Here are a handful of tips to get you through the season.
If you're looking for a quick decorating idea, consider adding holiday themed magnets to your door. Magnets can easily be installed and they pose no threat to the exterior surface of the door. However, placement is important. You want to keep your magnets toward the center of the door.
Try to avoid installing the magnets near the sides of the door in the area near the tracks. Should a magnet become loose, it could easily slip off to the side and fall on the door's track. Even a small magnet can block the door from moving along the track and if it happens to get dragged along the track, it could potentially damage the rollers and hinges that keep the door in place.
Another festive addition is string lights. When adding this decoration idea, remember that you want to frame the garage door, not install the lights on the door itself. Make sure you are using a high-quality hanging system that is durable enough to sustain the cold temperatures and moisture from snow or freezing rain that are sometime frequent during this season.
When a decoration gets loose, there is always the risk of it getting caught on the track and causing damage. However, a dangling line of string lights can also get caught in between the door panels. When a garage door opens and closes, the panels will separate as the door moves along the track. If the dangling end of the lights get tangled around a panel, the pressure exerted from the end of the lights that is still connected can actually bend the door and cause damage.
When decorating this holiday season, make sure you are keeping safety in mind. However, in the event you do sustain damage, rest assured that there is a garage door maintenance specialist ready to fix the problem in no time.Share
